The Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum is entirely volunteer-run. Every tour given, every aircraft maintained, every exhibit built — volunteers. Over 60 active volunteers and 200 members keep this institution alive. If you have time, interest, and willingness to learn, there is a place for you here.
What Volunteers Do
Guided Tours
Train as a docent and lead visitors through the collection. You tailor it — technical depth or accessible storytelling.
Aircraft Restoration
Work alongside aviation professionals restoring historic aircraft. No prior experience required.
Exhibit Building
Build and maintain the indoor display cases and artifact exhibits.
Collections
Catalog and preserve artifacts, documents, photographs, and aviation history materials.
Events
Support special programs, group visits, and museum events.
Administration
Communications, membership, outreach, and organizational support.
Becoming a Docent
Docents are the public face of the museum. Our volunteer tour guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and consistently praised by visitors. Tours are tailored to the audience — technical depth for the aviation enthusiast, accessible storytelling for the first-time visitor, hands-on engagement for school groups. Training is provided.
