Events

22 June 1963: W.R. Nichols was uninjured when A-4B BuNo 142864 sustained substantial damage after it went through the over run, through a chain-link fence and into a pond at NAS Norfolk while landing. It was stricken 02 July 1963. The pilot was under water for a while before crash crew got him out of the cockpit, and he turned in his wings several months later. I was his plane captain on his final attempt at flying, he jumped back out of the cockpit, walked to the ready room and called it quits. Gary Clark.
