Events

AUG 2010: Webmaster; A military contractor ran across these birds. BuNo's he gave were 158494 and 159797. We show in our records as "stricken"; and last base assignment was 30 Sep 1992 to NADEP MCAS Cherry Point. (NE of Jacksonville).
"I got all the details on how to get to the A-4s in the weeds at Camp Lejeune.
Finally- single mission air medal at least!! Had to convince a MACG-28 tactical check point and MP's from MWSS-272 that I was not a spy and had a note from the teacher for Camp Lejeune range access- they are deployed as part of II MEF exercise getting ready for the sand next spring. The two birds (definitely fixer-uppers!) are as defined in your original note but are slightly displaced from original locations.
TA-4J 159797 is at 34/31'/8.30"N x 77/32'/44.34"W - I'm sure Thumper and Buzzman would be proud!
TA-4J 158494 is at 34/31'/12.38"N x 77/32'/40.42"W- not sure where the extra 5.56 bullet holes came from- must be DEA."

Derelict remains of former COMTRAWING-2 TA-4J 159797, B-156, in the weeds in the Camp Davis section of the Greater Sandy Run Area at Camp Lejeune (34/31'/12.38"N x 77/32'/40.42"W) with the names Thumper and Buzzman below the canopy, 23 August 2010. Photos by Bill "Jigger" Egan. Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3

I'm sure Thumper and Buzzman would be proud their old bird still serves a purpose.
