Events June 5, 1963: LCol Lawrence H. Brandon, 42, H&MS-15 CO, ejected successfully from his A-4C Skyhawk (BuNo 150597) at 25,000' during an in-flight fire that started in a mountainous area about 50 miles east of San Diego. His Skyhawk crashed near Julian, CA. Pasadena Independent, Thursday, June 6, 1963. May 26, 1972: Capt. William E. Ransbottom & CWO2 Bruce Edward Boltze ejected (BuNo 153508) 10 miles SE of Da Nang and were rescued. Lost to SAM SA-7 as they pulled up through 4,500 feet after strafing a tank about 15 miles NW of Hue. 1968 Hornet cruise the following Skyhawks were assigned: A-4C BuNo. 147681, YV 81 Fanny Hill A-4C BuNo. 147809, YV 82 Polly Adler A-4C BuNo. 147829, YV 83 Mame Stover A-4C BuNo. 148464, YV 84 Ko Sisters |
Unit Photos 1965: BuNo.148464 of Marine Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 15 (MAG-15), Det. N was based on the United States Ship Hornet (CVS-12) from August 12, 1965 to March 23, 1966. Det. N not only flew attack missions but by installing missile rails and sidewinder missiles provided fighter cover for Hornet. MAG-15 Det. N also flew from Ticonderoga (CVS-14), Midway (CVA-41) and USS Ranger (CVA-61) during the period. 1965: H&MS-15 DET. Then on March 11, 1966, "Fanny Hill" was sent to Naval Air Station Cubi Point, Philippines for maintenance. May 1966: Hornet blue-shirt uses a tillie bar to guide H&MS-15 Det. The USS Shangri-La, CVS 38, came to Yokosuka July 11, 1970 to exchange a damaged screw and stayed until July 24, 1970 when she went back to Yankee Station for more combat.
