Standards - Critical to the future of our web site.
READ, note, copy, check your work BEFORE you act.
This site is non-political and appropriate for both sexes and all ages. So before you hit the SAVE button; check your spelling AND your content for appropriate wording. Only "facts"; comments, so noted, should be directly related to one's experiences with the Skyhawk and the source noted.
DO NOT use an external web page generator such as Microsoft's FrontPage, Microsoft Word, etc. They generate excessive and non-standard html code. Use only the site's built-in CKEditor. Use a simple text editor on your desktop to check your spelling and then cut and paste the text into the Drupal page.
Also, do not use numbered or unnumbered listings ; as they are not friendly to the CKEditor. For text files over 2MiB contact the webmaster(s).
Prepare the image file by correcting the file name to our standard, editing the image if so desired, and determining what directory on the server it should be uploaded to.
Consistency in file naming is important. Do NOT use, in directory/file names phrases such as "archive", "backup", "old", "copy", anything that would suggest that the file or folder is not being actively used when naming files/folders.
File names should be all lower case with NO spaces or special characters such as * ( ) = @, use dashes to separate descriptive sections of the file name and an underscore to separate the descriptive file name area from the contributor section. Use .jpg, .png; convert tiff and bmp to .png. Do not use .gif except for an animated image.
File Naming Example: Use ".jpg" for web site a/c images, use ".gif" ONLY for animations, otherwise convert gif images to jpg; keep high resolution originals in original format; (minimize length by elimination of unneeded dashes such as va-55 to va55, and use cvn65 instead of ship's full name. If some info not available, skip that section of the file name. Ex: 137812-va12-ak01-launch-cva19-01jan58-original_david-weber.jpg and then 137812-va12-ak01-launch-cva19-01jan58-mod960_david-weber.jpg
File Placement!
General rules; a: max image width will be edited to 960 pixels wide by the CKEditor if needed, and max width for patch images should be manually edited to 250 pixels to 320 pixels. But be sure to use "width=100%" if you place them with the ckeditor image placement window.
IMPORTANT: Determine the correct directory for the placement of the upload file.
/images/a4-unknown2/ Skyhawk Images that are unidentified but show enough of the a/c to be possibly identified in the future.
/images-buno-137812-139970/ Skyhawk images identified by BuNo.
-------Full Directory List is Here---------------------------------------
/images-buno-160241-60264/ Skyhawk images identified by BuNo.
/images-common/ [images such as icons, a/c profiles, etc. that are used in multiple pages.]
/images-general/ [images that do not fit other categories]
/images-modeling/ [images of models, file names should start with model- ]
/images-newspaper/ [newspaper article images, a/c accidents, unit activities see /images-units/]
/images-nona4s/ [images of non A-4 aircraft]
/images-people/ [people, if with a/c then a/c directories apply; buno, unknown, etc. also see sa-activites / reunions]

Example of final link url after file upload: /sites/default/files/images-buno-137812-139970/137812-va12-ak01-launch-cva19-01jan58-original_david-weber.jpg and then 137812-va12-ak01-launch-cva19-01jan58-mod960_david-weber.jpg
What to do with the original image file on your computer. If it warrants long term archiving, or is high resolution that can be used in our journal, then the original copy needs to be sent to our Journal Editor at sa-journal-editor@a4skyhawk.net
Editing a page:
1. Access: your "permissions" must be set correctly by the webmaster; and only then will you see an administration menu and/or the editing tabs. Log-in to the site.
2. Using the standard public menu (blue bar), open the page you wish to view and/or edit.
3. Note the "Tabs" at the top of the page when it loads. This is the menu for page view/edit modes.
4. Click on the [Edit] tab and the format of the page will change as you go into "edit mode" and an editing sub-window will appear.
5. The page is now in "edit mode". Note that putting your mouse pointer over the little icons in the editor's menu bar will display identifying text. IF at any time you feel you may have messed something up while in "Edit Mode"; Simply go to the the upper left and click on [View] and that will take you out of "edit mode" WITHOUT saving any changes to the page.
6. The edit window's right side has a standard up/down bar, move it down to the location you want to edit. Note that you can type your change in, or go to existing text and copy and then past. "FIND" will work within the Drupal Editing mode, do a CTR F and a little window will open bottom left of the full browser window and you can type in the text your looking for. Note the little up and down arrows next to the little text window. A good process to follow is to create any text in a text editor that has a spell checker, but typing directly into page to be edited is fine if your sure of your spelling. But don't use MS Word. Just a simple text editor other wise you copy unseen code.
Uploading a image file and placing a link into the page:
8. Your image should already be ready for upload; named correctly, sized correctly, edited if needed.
8a; [EDIT] mode click on the [Insert Images Using Imce File Manager] icon.

8f. Now that you have file uploaded, and have noted/copied the address assigned to it; we need to place a link for it. NOTE that we will only use /sites/default/files/images-buno-137812-139970/137812a.jpg and not the http://a4skyhawk..... Leave the file manager window open.
8g. Go back the window where the page to be edited is. You should still be in text edit mode. Place your cursor at the location where you want to place the text and type or copy it in. EX: BuNo 137812 is parked on the ramp. Photo from Happy George.
8h. Now highlight a small portion of the new text that you want to be highlighted as a link. In this case highlighting only "BuNo 137812" would be appropriate.
8j. Go to the editor bar and find the [Link] icon and click on it. A pop-up window will appear and the image file's address is to be typed or copied into it. Check it for accuracy before you [save] it.
8k. The link now has been created, you need to [SAVE] the page. After saving the page it will be in [view] mode and you can click on your new link to ensure it works.
Uploading an image and inserting it into the text of a page;
9. Ensure your image file to upload is named correctly, and you have determined where it should be uploaded to.
9a. After doing the page backup as described above, in [EDIT] mode click on the [Insert Images Using Imce File Manager] icon.
9b; On the page which your are editing, place your cursor at the location you want the image to be inserted. Then click on the [Insert Images Using Imce File Manager] icon

8f; Now in the file manager window click on "Select" and that will place the selected image into the page.
8g. Back to the page being edited and the image should be there.
Utilizing an existing image: in the Read Room there are links to images that are on the web site; such as patches, etc. Copy down the name file name of the image and use it when you create a link. Ex; va55patch.jpg would be entered as /sites/default/files/images-unit-patchs/va55patch.jpg in the link popup panel.
* Once your changes are completed; go down the to [SAVE] bottom left, click on it; and this will save your changes and then take you to "View" mode. IF you feel you messed up something while in "edit mode", simply don't save and go to the top of the page and click on [View] tab to take you out of edit without saving and then start over.
* After saving, your changes will be reflected on the page; but it may be possible that an old version of said page may be sitting in a "Cache" somewhere, and until the said Cache times-out the new version of the page may not show up in your browser. You may even see this "old version" if you log out, reload, and then view said page. No worry, cach(s) will time out in a few minutes.
