FAQ - Research- Contact
FLY "SMART":
IF you have just returned from 'PayPal' for the purpose of joining us, Thank You for your payment. Your transaction has been completed, and a receipt for your purchase has been emailed to you. You may log into your paypal account at www.paypal.com to view details of this transaction. The Association will be contacting you via email with log-in information to the members-only Ready Room. Questions about your membership payment can be directed to the Skyhawk Association at membership-paypal@a4skyhawk.org
BEFORE YOU REQUEST HELP in your search for someone or something! The Skyhawk Association is happy to help where we can. However, we are an all volunteer organization with limited resources. Please make a reasonable research effort of your own before contacting us. Seriously consider JOINING the Association; AND/OR donate to our cause of documenting the history of the Skyhawk and those associated with her. You will support ongoing research on the Skyhawk and the people who took her into battle; plus as a member you receive access to the private "Ready Room" site with its members only images access and data. Safely donate using PayPal. The Skyhawk Association web site does not receive/retain any data that you input on the PayPal Site. Once you hit the PayPal Button, you are on the PayPal site. PayPal is very secure, does not sell any user's data, and you control your own data. Donations are NOT deductible for tax purposes as the Skyhawk Association is a 501(c)(7) organization and cannot accept tax exempt donations.
Best Way to Explore the site! There are drop down menu items at the top of each page. AND there is a "Search" Window at the bottom of each page. What if I do not know my user name, password, or my e-mail address is not up to date? Contact our Secretary. Where do I find parts for a Skyhawk I am restoring or maintaining? The Skyhawk Association has no affiliation with parts suppliers and endorses no-one. The following list may assist in finding parts and we only suggest you to use caution, with your best judgement in selecting sources for parts. Please note that this is not a complete list, just the businesses known to us. We would also suggest that you network with other A-4 operators, some of whom are listed under “A-4 Users” on this site and don’t forget the many museums that have A-4s on display. IEP/IEPO - International Engine Parts – 111 N Mill St., Santa Paula, CA, (805) 933-3230 Skyhawk Ventures, offers the following comments concerning A-4 publications: George Posey at Newport Aeronautical (contact information below) has in stock the most complete library of all of the Navair manuals for all variants of the A4 and TA4 and if he is out of stock he can get them from Navair. Navair will release most unclassified documents through a Foia request but if you are not a government contractor it takes many months to get documents from their archives. George is a government contractor and can get them with a pretty quick turnaround. They are obviously more expensive if you go through George. For Airframe changes, Power plant bulletins, etc I recommend the engine manufacturer or some of the engine shops that do overhaul work on J52s like AeroTurbines in Stockton CA. I've gotten PPC and other engine related bulletins and change orders from Elmo Iadevaia at IEPO. Elmo is very knowledgeable engine guy. He runs a second generation engine parts business with a solid reputation and is usually willing to help. His limited contact information is below as well. He operates worldwide and is sometimes hard to get in touch with. I recommend starting with contacting his assistant, who's name is Abel, at this email address abeliep@aol.com . Its been a couple of years since I talked to Elmo or Abel so I am not certain about their current contact information. IEP has a website that will have telephone contact information. Ron Guy at United Aeronautical has a lot of manuals. Manual sales is not their business. They use them to service and overhaul parts that they sell. Porter Spangler. I have a POW/MIA bracelet, and would like to return it to the family. The following link can help - TaskForce Omega. How do I contact someone who served in a Skyhawk outfit that you have listed on the Association Web site? Check the Association Contact List to see if there is a SDO for the unit in question. A unit SDO should be your first contact. For units that do not have a SDO, contact the SDO-Coordinator. Looking for a Marine? Then you can also try Leatherneck Magazine. They publish a "Mail Call" column which lists requests for contacts with Marines, etc. Mail to: Mail Call editor, P.O. Box 1775, Quantico, Va. Other places for finding former squadron etc. members: Sites like Hullnumber.com , navysite-crewlist, Togetherweserved.com |
General Research Information! This section contains general information useful for military and aviation research. It is provided strictly as an aid with no particular endorsement of any site or its contents. For information on Aircraft Losses in Vietnam: "Vietnam Air Losses United States Air Force Navy and Marine Corps Fixed-Wing Aircraft Losses in Southeast Asia 1961-1973" by Chris Hobson. If event was Skyhawk related, we may have information on it. Contact our research group historical-research@skyhawk.org One possible source of information for an aircraft accident is Aviation Archaelogy If event was non-A4 Skyhawk aircraft loss related and you have Aircraft BuNo. (Bureau Number), date of loss, etc. utilize official military sites such as An excellent U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Records site is thevietnamfiles.com Marines: MATMEP or equivalent or any other records for training and MOS experience. Looking for information concerning a POW/MIA Braclet? Try Task Force Omega Inc. Books such as "How to Locate Anyone Who Is or Has Been in the Military" by Johnson and Knox can provide vauluable information such as little known records locations. A related web site is MilitaryUSA.com NARA eVetRecs USNAVYEMAIL.COM is a site to check for email ids. Buried Vets Records. Veterans Benfits and Services. DUTY STATION VERIFICATION [USN]: Many times your Discharge Papers (DD 214) don't tell the whole story of your duty stations while in the service. One of the things they won't show is when you were sent on TDY or TAD. Proof of duty stations arrival and departure is contained in Ships Log for ships and Deck Log for Shore Activities. When you check in and out an entry is made in one of those Logs. The names of assigned officers usually appear on the first page of each month's deck log. The enlisted men assigned to a naval ship or command are listed on muster rolls which were also submitted monthly. If needed, the following are Government sources where you can locate and obtain information regarding assignments: The proper use of Internet Search Engines, will provide access to many sources of information. |
For UNIT SPECIFIC matters contact the unit SDO first, see the Squadron Duty Officer listing below.
